IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THE EXAM:
• The online exam is not proctored. WORK ALONE and simply TRY YOUR BEST.
• Do NOT use calculators, websites, books or other resources during the exam.
• You may only take the exam two times. Your best score of the two is your math placement. Each time you click the "Begin Assessment" button counts as an attempt. Logging into eCommons or entering the exam without beginning the assessment does not count as an attempt.
• Once you click the "Begin Assessment" button, you will have 2.5 hours to complete the exam. Do not begin the exam without at least two hours of uninterrupted time to devote to the exam. If you run out of time or exit the exam without clicking "Submit for Grading" button, your exam will automatically be submitted for grading.
• The exam is 48 questions and contains a mix of multiple-choice and fill-in-the-answer questions. Prior to beginning the assessment you may take a "training test" to preview the test format.
• Upon submitting your exam for grading, you will receive a confirmation number and information on when your placement results will be available in your MyUCSC portal. For information on how to view your score in your portal, see our Checking your Score page.
Placement results are valid for enrollment for one year.
• Accurrate placement is critical to academic success. Do NOT enroll in a math course that is beyond your ability. Students who enroll in a course above their ability level run the risk of failing their courses, becoming ineligible for their desired major, being placed on academic probation, having their enrollment barred or being disqualified from attending UCSC, for more information see the campus information on Academic Standing.
• At no point may a student who has received a non-passing grade in a math course here at UCSC use the Mathematics Placement Exam to place out of that course.
